we pull up to the beach, i see a monk seal right on the shore line looking for food. we see him, and then he was gone.
then i take out 10 year old Ryo-kun surfing. right as we get to the lineup, the monk seal comes up and starts eating a fish right in front of us! omg, we had front row seats to the real wild world!
then he stays around so i get a nice underwater shot. i asked Ryo-kun “did you ever see a hawaiian monk seal before?” he said “no.” i told him “i bet nobody in your whole school got to experience what you just did. you are a very luck kid because these close encounters don’t happen very often.” i couldn’t tell if he was stoked, or scared? haha.
then we started surfing. this kid is so good! i’m’ not surprised because he learned from pro surfer Maoh Toda in miyazaki. his surfing style actually looks like Maoh’s too. cool!
then it was Mami-san’s turn. it was her first time ever surfing! and she did great right from the start!
yeah, can’t hide the beautiful smile surfing brings out. you did great Mami-san!
then it was Ryo-kun’s turn again. more perfect rides.
then it was Mami-san’s turn again. she surfed 2 rounds, and Ryo-kun surfed 3 rounds. i’m surprised how much energy they had.
such a cute kid! i hope this kid keeps on surfing and surfing. he already has dreams to live in hawaii already. it was so cute as he was telling me about it on the way home. haha.
had an awesome reimein at Yu-chan’s. a healthy and happy lunch was a perfect ending to a perfect morning. thank you Mami-san and Ryo-kun!
and yes, the highlight was watching a monk seal eat breakfast right in front of us. it was only my 3rd time i seen a monk seal in the ocean eating fish. for me, i’m in the water every single day so i have a great chance to see things like this. but for Ryo-kun, it’s a once in a million chance. maybe i should take him to las vegas so we can win the jackpot? haha.
then went for an afternoon surf with Mizuno-san. another amazing person and surf session. photos coming tomorrow. good night for now.
