as years go by, the homeless problem in hawaii is getting bigger and bigger. from just a few when i was growing up, to thousands now. i see big families living on the streets. i see kids running around. i see people going to school and work from their tents. and as years go by as luxury condo after luxury condo goes up, the homeless are getting chased out from neighborhood to neighborhood. it’s something tourists won’t see because the government made it illegal even to sit on the sidewalks in waikiki. what’s the solution? nobody knows but i can tell you something, it’s only going to get worst. with real estate going up, rentals going up, and the cost of living going up, homeless will be a part of life here in hawaii.
i got up at 4am this morning and was watching a documentary called “No Room in Paradise.” it was filmed on the streets of honolulu. it goes pretty deep into the homeless problem. i was shocked and i was sad. i hope there will be an answer.
