Josh and Seth Moniz are the most famous groms in the surfing world. they are on the way to the highest level of competition. famous to millions, but not to me. they are just my little nephews growing up hawaiian style. yes, they can afford 5 star hotels, but there’s no hotels like that for miles away. this how they slept on our boat trip. and the actually liked it!
because when you can wake up and jump over the boat to catch dinner, life is all good. Seth is becoming a very calm and relaxed diver. that’s why he’s catching fish.
i’ve never seen bigger kumu’s than this in my life. so big it can’t even fit in my steamer!
we found a spot about 100′ deep way out in the ocean. i seen so many fish so i let Joshua take the first drop. i told him “clear your mind, relax, take slow deep breaths, go to the bottom, and don’t come up unless you have a fish.” he did exactly that and speared this big uhu. then i took the next drop and speared the big kumu. i’m trying to teach the kids that everything in life is simple of you are calm and relaxed.
then i felt like using my pole spear for the challenge. i lined up 2 fish in the hole and shot them both at the same time. both perfect kill shots. my first time doing this. and not my last.
then we pulled anchor and headed back home. we were all tired. i actually fell asleep while driving the boat. Seth had a much better setup.
then once we got back to waikiki, i could see the boys disappointment. Josh told me “i don’t want to go home.” i told him “that’s exactly how uncle feels every time i come home from the purest of nature. get use to it.”
