i just read a cool article on Nihiwatu Resort. it’s financed by this billionaire guy from New York named Chris Burch. he invested over $30 million into Nihiwatu. and because Burch was a big fan of the guy who created the Aman Resorts, he kind of incorporated that kind of style and service.
and now after staying there last year, i could understand how it was so comparable to the Aman Resorts. luxury at it’s finest with price tags of $2,000/night. i can’t wait to go back there again someday. i just have to save some money. haha.
and speaking of Aman and indo. i will never forget this trip to an amazing secret island aboard the Amanikan. i never seen so many fish in my life! it was freaking amazing! can you count how many fish are in this photo? imagine walls of fish like this surrounding me all the time.
and speaking of indo, Tokura-san was the first one to take me to Bali, Lombok, and Sumba on my very first boat trip back in 1993. back then, i always wanted to be like him. successful, travel the world, lots of friends, and have an awesome time. so as i was watching Tokura-san in hokkaido carving up the powder snow, he was having the most amazing time. at 67 years old, i told him on this recent trip “i really envy your lifestyle. now i’m living the life i dreamed of when i watched you back in 1994. and now it’s 2017 and i want to live the life you’re living right now when i get to your age.” in other words, i’ve been inspired by Tokura-san for the past 25 years and counting.
as i was waiting on the bottom of the mountain watching Tokura-san surf through the trees, i thought to myself “omg, he isn’t just my inspiration, he’s everybody’s inspiration!” in japanese, we say “sugoi kakkoii!” in english, we say “fricking cool!!!” 67 years old and surfing the mountain like a professional!
