when i found out last night that Seth will be surfing against 11x world champion and 9x pipeline champion Kelly Slater, i couldn’t sleep. i kept on thinking “this the chance, this is the day, and this is what little Seth Moniz has been waiting for his whole life.” i knew this day would come but to tell you the truth, i couldn’t have dreamt of a better outcome. somebody please don’t wake me up!
omg, the whole world had their eyes on the heat of the day at pipe today. Kelly Slater, Bruce Irons, and Seth Moniz. it was the talk of the morning and everybody’s eyes was on Kelly. then within a minute, Seth caught this incredible pipe wave!
the kid got totally blown out of the barrel! 9.17 out of 10! awesome start!
then Seth went backdoor and got a 7, an 8, and another 7. total domination! the kid was playing around out there and had absolutely no nerves surfing against the most famous surfer in the history of surfing. Seth was surfing like a world champion!
Kelly Slater won this contest last year and probably had the confidence to win it again this year. but Seth didn’t back down one bit. he totally out surfed the champ and beat him fair and square in the most epic pipeline day of the year.
Kelly hates to lose. you could just see the frustration in his face. the first contest of the year for what is supposed to be his last year competing. in the interview after the heat, he made an excuse that he was fixing his watch when Seth caught his first wave. you might buy it, but i don’t. no excuses should be coming out of the most fierce competitor in surfing history. he should know better.
not only did Seth beat Kelly, he also beat Bruce Irons! after the heat was done, i sent Seth a congratulations text. i said “F*&K Yeah! You da Man! now go out next and beat John John!” then i started getting the texts from around the world on Seth’s big day! i couldn’t be any more proud of that kid. he surely represents hawaii in a positive way! a true hawaiian! opps, a true japanese/hawaiian!
i was so happy that i went to Kahala Mall to buy some dessert. i use to go into See’s Candies since 8 years old and try to ask for free samples. my mom couldn’t afford buying me those expensive candies so i had to ask for the scraps. sometimes the kind staff gave me, sometimes the kind staff told me to leave. haha.
i would always head to the right side corner because that’s where my favorite candy was. 41 years ago till this day, that exact spot of my favorite candy never moved.
rocky road is my favorite and only candy i like from See’s. it’s very expensive but since today was a big day in my life, i had to splurge on myself. it was my way of celebrating my nephews huge accomplishment!
then on the World Surf League website, Seth’s victory was the biggest news in the whole world. THE NEW KING HAS COME! congratulations Seth! ever since you were 7 years old, i knew your day in the spotlight would come! uncle always believed in you! and if anybody was in the 5 mile radius of me during that heat, you probably heard me screaming my head off!
