DLNR: Oceans Police

292

i go out to the ocean as much as i can. day or night, it doesn’t matter. alone or with friends, it doesn’t matter. i just like it there so when i feel like going, i just go. and every time i go out, i learn something new. take the last time for example. i was having some drinks with some friends as we were star gazing outside Waikiki. the darker it is, the more stars you can see. so i turn off all the lights on Mayuki and the stars shined so bright. one hour later, i see lights from a boat speeding my way, coming straight for us. so i switch on the light and they turn to avoid hitting me. then the blue lights came on! omg! police! they couldn’t see me and were super pissed off. it was my bad so i apologized. that wasn’t enough so they tied up to Mayuki and asked me to show my license, registration, safety equipment, and anything to try to give me a ticket. i wasn’t scared because i knew i was 100% legal. twenty minutes later, they left and our stargazing trip continued.

the next day, i talked to my boating friend. he told me “your navigation lights have to be on if you’re driving the boat. your anchor light has to be on if you’re anchored. so technically, you weren’t doing anything wrong because you were just drifting.” wow, i was so happy to hear that! now i can still continue to star gaze in the pitch dark. and if you seen the millions of stars as we did, you would also want to. can’t wait for the next opportunity!
