gosh, yesterday seemed like a week ago! we left the harbor at 4am, came back this morning at 10am, and i swear we had a year full of memories!
supposed to be heavy rain and a rising North swell. so we went around the storm, and rode the North swell to an outer reef. it couldn’t have been any more golden than this.
i do these trips a lot of times and this was by far the most breathtaking sunrise i’ve ever seen. i even had to stop Mayuki so we can take in the magical moment.
Naoka couldn’t have come to Hawaii at a better time. i invite him on these trips to get him away from his computer and hectic web designing life. everybody needs balance in their lives and this is good balance. work and sleep. haha.
i jump in for my first dive. back to the boat in 30 minutes with 3 delicious fish.
Naoka came back a lobster! his first lobster he ever caught, and you should have seen his face when he took the first big bite out of the soft and juicy tail later that night.
i jumped back in again for round 2. just took enough fish to make me happy for a week. i was totally satisfied and it was only 10am.
so after that, we went lobster hunting. it was Naoka and Maki-san’s first time lobster hunting so i was explaining to them how to grab them. it’s illegal to spear them so you have to grab them with your bare hands. you wouldn’t believe how strong their legs are as they cling to the reef. amazing creatures!
enjoyed the night practicing our survival skills. cooking, cleaning, eating, and laughing. and on the way back, i was thinking of doing some “survival lesson” courses soon. i want to teach people how to live off the land, and how to take care of our resources so they will be there forever. but for now, i’m going to load up the truck and go surfing! be back this evening…
