once i finish work everyday, i check my messages and usually get a lot from our new surf team. each guy driving around the island looking for the best wave to foil and yesterday, it was Diamond Head.
riding the same wave with Joshua is so cool. Joshua’s just enjoying his time with family and friends after his big Pipeline win. he actually looked much happier on this wave then he did on his winning ride in the contest. haha.
our session was pretty crazy. so many hard core competitors in the water at the same time. each guy wants to be the best of the best at whatever they do. i love watching the kids compete like this.
Josh is the leader of the WQS ratings now. he’ll be leaving for Australia for some contests so now is the time to enjoy the ride.
this group of kids keep on pushing each other to their limits.
Seth Moniz and Ezekiel Lau sharing a swell.
Josh again and again. looking so confident in everything he does.
i asked Joshua about winning the contest. i think he still doesn’t understand what he achieved. the first real Hawaiian to win the Volcom Pro. that says a lot for Hawaii, and the Hawaiians.
Tony Moniz is the one that taught me how to get my waves on the North Shore. he said “if you have to fight the biggest guy, fight him. just never back down!” i’ll never forget his advise. haha.
and Tony loves surfing more than anyone. he’ll drop in on anyone and nobody could say a word.
and when Tony cuts me off, i fall and i still can’t say anything. haha.
check out this cool shot of World Junior Champion Finn McGill on a foil. this kid is talented!
Seth Moniz isn’t too happy about Joshua winning the contest. he thinks it could have been him. and now there’s more fire than anything in this kid. wanna bet me that he will win a huge event this year??? yesterday, he hands down won the foil session by contacting 3 waves in one ride. this kid has the most determination then any of the others…
