hunting is the lifestyle in Molokai. everybody does it because that’s the way they live. they eat pigs, goats, deer, and pretty much anything. absolutely nothing goes to waste. so seeing 2 sisters going up in the mountains with their hunting dogs is a normal sight on this island.
right when we pull up to the house, the boys just came down with a deer.
i watched carefully when they were cleaning it and taking the meat off the body. i learned a lot.
then the bbq was ready to go.
cousin Dino started preparing the fresh Molokai Moi.
deer soaked in olive oil and rosemary.
the moi was from a cousin that brought it over to share. so big and beautiful.
Dino teaches the boys everything from hunting to preparing to sharing. and it’s these boys that will teach their kids and so on. when Uncle Dino speaks, everybody listens. that’s all about respect.
and the boys do a good job on cutting up the meat. this deer meat from up the mountain to the grill. fresh and delicious.
the full moon was so beautiful. i watched it and fell asleep at 8:45pm the first night. super tired and totally satisfied.
the next day, we went fishing and you wouldn’t believe what we caught!
