Hawaii Duck Tours

299

did you hear about the Duck Tour in Missouri that capsized and killed 17 people? that’s such sad news… the released the video and it’s sad to see such a tragedy.

we have the same exact Duck Tours in Hawaii. every time i see it going out from the Ala Wai, i think to myself “that’s freaking dangerous!!!” this boat on wheels has no business in the open water.

the weather can change in minutes, and if it does, this boat has no chance in the ocean. or if dolphins or turtles pop up on one side of the boat and all the tourists pile to that side to see it, the boat will tip over sideways. i see it going out everyday and i always think to myself “an accident is bound to happen.” hope they ban this from all Hawaiian waters…

after the big news about all the people dying, i see the Duck Tour picking up tourists in Waikiki this morning. unbelievable. i would not want any of my family members riding this…

recently, i want to sail. so if i want to do something, i don’t sit around dreaming. i move. i ask around. i call friends. i find a way to make it happen. then one thing leads to another as i was invited on board for an evening sailboat race. this is how i learn. i watch carefully and if they can do it, so can i.

we went out from the Ala Wai and raced over 30 sailboats around Diamond Head. it was freaking amazing!!!

we were on the Wasabi who’s owner Jimmy invited me to join them. i sat, watched, and learned so much. it was a totally new experience for me.

boats were tipping so much and it was amazing riding it like that. it was a total team effort with our crew of 10.

we rounded Diamond Head and i couldn’t believe how beautiful it was. the winds were blowing super hard so we were sailing pretty fast.

came back to the Yacht Club. we got 2nd place in the race. Captain Jimmy got out the celebration rum and coke. i was feeling great!

then there were the fireworks!

then there was the dinner!

want to thank Team Wasabi for the amazing experience. i hope to join you guys again next Friday for the races. in the meantime, i’ll be learning more and more how to sail. someday, i’ll be sailing around the world…
