quick way to eat the freshest and most delicious traditional Hawaiian meal. first, go into the ocean and get a tako.
make sure you get it out of the hole and into the cooler. easier said then done.
freeze it for 2 days. then defrost it and rub salt all over to clean off the slime. rinse with water and get it ready for the pot.
throw it into a pot with the heat on medium/high.
add in a cup of mirin and a cup of sake.
turn the heat down to medium/low and let the tako slow cook itself for 40 minutes. when it’s done, it should look like this. very soft and tender.
then in another pot, add luau leaves, a can of coconut milk, some salt, and then the chopped up tako. this is the finished product called squid luau. get a bag of poi and eat it like a happy Hawaiian! so fresh and so delicious!
