Rainbow Surfing

Super happy to surf with Mori-san this morning.  It’s his first time surfing in Hawaii so stoked to share the moment.

Probably the longest rides of his life.  I think Mori-san was surprised how long he rode it for.

The double rainbow was out shining bright!

Imagine it being your first surf in Hawaii and get to ride long waves like this.  Double rainbows, unlimited rides, and a view of one of the most famous cities in the world.  Mori-san with the picture perfect session.

After training the past 2 days at a totally different spot, it was time to showcase the skills at one of the easiest waves in Hawaii.  Looking pretty good!

Trade winds are back so expect double rainbows every single day this week.

I make sure my students can ride anything.  Shortboard on one wave, then longboard on the next.  It’s not easy to do but once you figure it out, your surfing is on another level.

Good morning 3:20am.
Ala Moana waist high and good.
Diamond Head chest high and bumpy.
Trade winds up to 25mph today.
Sun, showers, and rainbows.
Going to the sea.
Have a wonderful day!

Teach by Example

I had 2 coaches in my life.  Both Ben Aipa and Tony Moniz taught me how to surf by example.  To me, that had the most impact because it clearly showed me the mechanics and allowed me to mimic them.  So I always tell my students to do the same and it always works.  Thank you Wes for the shot of my student in class.

We had another great surf session this morning.  Two girls pushing each other to their limits.  I sit on the boat watching them, videoing them, and laughing.  It’s pretty funny.

When I first met these two girls, they had zero knowledge and zero surfing skills.  Total beginners just having fun.  Now they just want to get better and better and it’s a beautiful thing to see them splitting peaks again.

Passing by Bowls on the way in.  Crowded and small.  No thank you.

One of the motors isn’t running at a 100%.  I’ve been trying to troubleshoot it spending hours researching, hours hands on, and hours of dreaming about it.  In the meantime, I’m running on one motor which is good enough for now.  But I will fix it!
