Shark Bait Diving

IMG_2277
today was my first day off in a very long time so i decided to take care of myself. woke up, went to yoga, felt so good, then ate lunch at the yacht club. todays special was eggplant lasagna! omg, it was the best!
IMG_2278
my mind was already in a good place because of yoga, now, i wanted to take it even deeper into relaxation. and the best for that is free dive!

i texted my nephews Joshua and Seth to dive and they replied “YES!” they are in-between contests now so the timing was perfect. watching these kids dive is hilarious. reminds me when i was that young and curious.
IMG_2286
now, the kids are men. the water was dirty so you really couldn’t see the bottom. i told them, “you guys want to do a blind dive?” that means just dive down until you find clear water and see something. they both agreed. unbelievable. they use to think i was crazy when i did that, but now, they are doing the exact same thing. haha.
IMG_2308
both of them can now spear their own dinner. Seth speared this Mu, and Joshua speared a kumu. when Joshua speared his kumu, a couple sharks came around to check it out. we kept on diving anyway. i went down, waited for a fish, then the sharks were coming in from both sides. i take a shot at the fish, then the sharks charge in. one almost hitting my ear. i told the boys, “it’s time to go.” then Seth says “why? there is so much fish here!” haha.
IMG_2329
we were being very selective. the boys already know that we eat what we kill. and when we have enough, we go home. just enough for a fresh dinner tonight.

the 2 boys are heading to Tahiti on saturday for the WSL contest. practicing at diamond head or kewalo’s won’t help any for the upcoming contest. today’s free dive is what will help. i told them, “now you guys can relax if a 20′ wave breaks on your head. panicking won’t get you anywhere.” great diving today boys. easy 40′ dives all afternoon will prepare your lungs for anything. good luck in Tahiti and please get a barrel for me!

last night went to a bar down my street for a drink with a friend. i ordered this house special called a manhattan or something. it tasted like cough medicine. yuck! i’ll stick to jacksan.

when new philippine president Dutarte took office on june 30th, he pledged to make the streets safe by killing drug dealers. since then, over 500 people have been killed, 3,600 have been arrested, and 120,000 turned themselves in. crime already dropped 13%. seems to be working.

and the prisons have been overloaded. but the inmates are actually happy to be alive. later this month, i’m planning to chase a typhoon and maybe end up in the philippines. i always felt safe there, but i feel much safer this time.

ok, 50 days straight of spending an average 6 hours in the ocean, my body is changing. first, i’m as dark as i can possibly be, and second, all my leg and arm hairs turned all blonde. haha.
