when i got an email this morning from matsu with 3 words (Please watch
this) and a link, i knew it was important. i clicked on it and after the
first 10 seconds, felt like i was reliving our missions. we were there
in most of these areas, seen the elementary schools that were
devastated, been to the evacuation zone, met the victims, and heard a
lot of heartbreaking stories. in front of the people, we keep strong.
but in front of my computer watching this, i broke down. all the empty
feelings came back, all the horrifying images came back, and all the
emotions that were being held in no longer could. it’s the stories from
the innocent kids. they are so pure and didn’t deserve what happened.
but to see some of these kids with such positive attitudes and such
strong hearts, makes me happy. there are families still searching for
their loved ones, there are families still living in temporary housing,
there are families still trying to move forward, and there are families
that are stronger than ever. it’s these families that make me want to
keep going back and back to show our support. our team is still thinking
about the people in tohoku, and our team is looking forward to going
there in april.
please take the time to watch this documentary that was well put
together by the BBC. next week will make 1 year since the tragedy and as
things are getting better, it’s still far from over. thank you for your
continuing support. We Are One!
Yours or Mine?
every time i pass my garage, i take a peak at my boat. it’s been so long since i gave her some love and attention so i took her down for a fast run to make sure everything is working, and a good wash. didn’t want to waste gas so jumped in and speared dinner. i was stoked that everything is working fine, and stoked that i have some free time next week for some spearfishing adventure. just by pulling out of the harbor for a little while felt so good. so free, and so where i wanted to be.
i wish i could take my boat on every trip i go on. i’d rather have this than a car. this will get me to the places i want to be without all the traffic problems.
every time i come back to the harbor, i use to see a really nice 18′ boat parked in the slot. it is a beauty with 2 brand new 90 hp honda 4-stroke motors. i’d say it’s probably worth $40,000 and was thinking it would be a good next step for me. but after i heard it sank out at diamond head, and after i seen it getting towed back to the ala wai, i was glad it wasn’t my boat. it took 8 guys to finally get this boat back on it’s right side. and it will take about $25,000 to get it back running. and will it sink again? very possible. the guy told me it sank in 10 seconds and they lost everything.
as they pulled it out of the water, all kinds of things were running through my mind. yes, this is a boat owners worst nightmare. it would make a grown man cry. i’m going to be a lot more careful from now on.
