the original idea behind AKB48 is “idols you can meet.” Akimoto-san is
the guiness behind this group of young girls that are now the
highest-earning pop group in the world. yes, in the world! in 2011, they
recorded sales of $212 million!!!! wow, that’s almost how much money i
made in 2011. haha.
it all started in 2005 with 20 girls singing and dancing in a theater in
tokyo’s Akibahara. yes, i have to admit, i went there one time. not
because i’m a lover of young girls, it was because i taught one of the
girls surfing in hawaii so we went to support her. i sat front row and
it was a weird experience for me. i guess you can say culture shock? but
hey, the group is making millions, the group act as goodwill ambassadors
to china, and the group is pumping money into an economy that needs it
the most. a successful business story for sure!
i better get going, i’m going to waikiki to scout 20 cute girls and make
the next GO-NAMINORI48 pop girl band! haha.
