from Tokyo, Japan….

the mayor asking for help is the reason we went minami soma.  like i said before, it takes a lot of courage to come out and ask for help to the outside world, especially from a japanese government official.  we went to the city office and heard the situation from the top.  that was last week….this week, the japan’s top government expanded the evacuation zone which puts most of minami soma in the red zone.  so the places we visited are now “off limits.”   as we passed minami soma on the way home yesterday, we called the city office to get the current update.  here’s what’s going on…..japan’s government put out an order for most of minami soma to evacuate.  they basically said to “leave!” or be prepared to leave.  easy words, but no action.  they didn’t send in buses for the evacuation, they didn’t set up any shelters, they didn’t send people in to help with the evacuation.  it’s all up to the city government.  with a city of 70,000 people, most already left when the nuclear plant started leaking high levels of radiation.  there are about 20,000 people left with nowhere to go.  now the government is scrambling to organize the evacuation on the little resources they have.  and in the time being, the citizens of minami soma are taking in radiation everyday.  sometimes high, sometimes low.  there is a lot of talk going around in japan on how things are being mismanaged.  this is just one example.  i feel for the people of minami soma. i feel for the city officials, and i feel for the people.  last week, an elderly man was found living his life well inside the radiation zone in minami soma.  he said that nobody came to get him and he couldn’t get out because his car was stuck in the mud.  i’m sure that’s not the only person that was abandoned.  as this crisis rises and rises by the day, i’m getting more and more upset from the things i hear, and from the things i see that aren’t getting done.  i’m going back up next week and i’m hoping to stop by in minami soma.  if i have to help people evacuate, i will.  the people living in there are already exposed to high levels of radiation and the longer they stay in there, the shorter their lives will be.  i feel for the grandpa’s, and i feel for the children.  please help minami soma.the WE ARE ONE project plans to make a monetary donation to the minami soma government who is desperately trying to help its citizens, and for those of you who keep asking me where to donate money, this is your chance.  hand to hand with no bullshit red tape. excuse my language but i’m a little pissed off now…. and if you want me to hand deliver the monetary donations, i will.  i’m not sure if the people in minami soma will ever be able to return home.  but for now, we have to help!

次のような追悼セレモニー『ＯＣＥＡＮ ＢＬＵＥ ＤＡＹ』(以下ＯＢＤ)を開催いたします。

すべてのサーファーの心がひとつになり、被災地を除く日本全国のサーフポイントのビーチにおいて、
水による災害としては日本の歴史上最大の人数となった東日本大震災の犠牲者のご冥福をお祈りし、
また、一日も早い被災者の生活再建と被災地の復興が進むことを心から願って、
「東北地方太平洋沖地震」が発生した午後2時46分からの1分間、
海に向かって全員で黙とうを捧げます。また、当日仕事や都合により、
どうしても海に来られない方も、この時刻になりましたら、
心をひとつにして海の方向に向かって黙とうを捧げて下さい。なお、当日の進行役は特に決めておりません。

各地サーフショップ・サーフチーム単位、また個人での追悼セレモニーを計画していただきたく思います。セレモニー
場所が決定したポイントでは、NSAの各支部、ＪＰＳＡ・ＡＳＰ所属プロサーファー、ＪＰＢＡプロボディボーダー、
サーフライダーファンデーションの会員などが中心となって、ポイントごとの黙とうを円滑に進めるとともに、
その後のイベント、例えばビーチクリーンや募金活動などをご参加の皆さまに促しますので、合わせてご協力
下さるよう宜しくお願いいたします。
最後に、被災地の復興が長期化することは避けられません。ゆえに、私たちの被災地支援も、中長期にわたる粘り
強い努力と協力が求められます。そこで、日本サーフィン連絡協議会に所属するすべてのサーフィン関係団体が一致
協力して、復興支援のためのＯＢＤチャリティーＴシャツを、著名なデザイナーと関係社の特段のご協力のもとに作成し
販売することとなりました。この売上金の利益のすべてが義援金に使われます。
