there was once this little boy. he use to love to play baseball, and then started riding motorcycles. then the next stage was surfing. and once he started surfing, he never turned back. he went from dragging his bodyboard down to the beach at baby queens, then started longboarding, then graduated to the shortboard. that was over 10 years ago. today, this little boy is the rated #1 surfer in the entire united states of america. his name is Joshua Moniz. i still have these awesome memories of Josh as the cutest kid in the world. he couldn’t pronounce my name so he use to call me Uncle Burby. i use to squeeze his cheeks and he loved it. haha. now, i can’t do those things anymore but i can sit aside and watch this fine kid be on the top of his game.
the biggest surf competition in america happened today as Josh won the men’s division in the NSSA championships at huntington beach, california. i watched his final heat and was screaming from my house as he dominated from start to finish!!!
and a lot of people on the beach watched it too as well as people online from all over the world.
he won the world junior champions last year, then is now the top ranked amateur surfer in the usa. i think this kid is on the perfect path to making the WCT tour and beat guys like kelly slater!
and he’s getting better in front of the camera. such a good representation for hawaiians!
Josh is so dark that you can’t even see his face. haha.

my sister was right on the beach watching another one of her son’s rise to the top. Seth made the final too and got 4th place but i’m sure he was happy for his big brother as he carried him up the beach. photos like this make me cry. the Moniz family is solid and will keep on rising to the top! congratulations again Joshua, i am very very proud of you!
