Graffiti, Bluebottles, and Pirates

The stranded boat has been on the beach for days.  It’s an eyesore, a hazard, and stinks of gas.  Because there are no consequences for the owners, it’s still there.

I don’t know the real story on how this boat got stuck on the reef.  But, just by looking at it, maybe it’s because the boat propeller hasn’t been cleaned in a long time?  There were barnacles everywhere so no way this could function properly.

The artist vandals came and tagged it with graffiti the next day.  And I saw some thieves stealing parts off the boat on the afternoons.  I’m wondering how much longer it will be there.

After surfing good waves for 1.5 hours, an army of bluebottle jellyfish invaded Bowls.  We all got stung, you could see them everywhere in the water, and it even got stuck on peoples bodies, arms, and legs.

This one got wrapped around Mighty Mouse’s sleeve.  Thank goodness she had a Dove rash guard protecting her.

These jellyfish will sting you and you will instantly feel it.  The first day it hurts, and the next 4 days it’s itchy.  So itchy that you can’t sleep at night.

This photo would look a lot better without that sailboat on the beach.  Look closely and you will see a guy that pulled up on his bicycle, took out his tools, and started stealing parts.  Haha.

April 3, 2025 Hawaii Surf Report

Yesterday once more:  Thank you Alan for the water shot!

Good morning 4:10am.
Ala Moana waist high.
Diamond Head shoulder high.
Light winds in the morning becoming South/West today.
Sunny and warm.
Going to the sea.
Have a wonderful day!

Bluebottle Invasion!

Round 1:  We got a big surprise this morning.  Perfect waves and only a couple guys out!  Bowls was super fun as Owaki-san was smiling on his first session out there.  He was so lucky to surf such uncrowded quality waves like this.

And he was ripping too!  A very experienced surfer with great style.

Mighty Mouse prating her timing on the sets.

Perfect timing on this one!

Rocky always surfing so smooth.  Look how perfect the conditions were!

Round 2:  Bowls once again.  Sunny, warm, and really fun!

Hashimoto-san looks like a bodybuilder!  This is power surfing.

Mighty Mouse averages 30 waves/day.  I don’t see anyone catching as many waves as her and riding it as long as she does.

Rocky catching all the sets with her 8’6 Waimea gun.  She told me this is one of her favorite boards.  Now we have to try it at Waimea Bay!

The winds turned onshore and blew in the bluebottle jellyfish.  Just in a few minutes, you could hear “ouch!  ouch!  ouch!” as every surfer in the lineup got stung, including me.  It seemed like the jellyfish invasion came in on one wave and stung everyone who was there.  I’ve never seen it happen that fast before.
