Surf and Off the Hook

When there is a huge North swell with trade winds, one spot on the North Shore will shine.  That spot is Laniakea.  It was absolutely perfect today!  Solid 4-6′ with some 8′ sets.  It’s been a while since I saw perfect waves like that!  We caught good waves, had a good time, and most importantly, didn’t get hurt.

This guy was smiling all the way home.  The biggest surf of his life, very calm, and World Champion Carissa Moore paddling past him saying “Ohayo gozaimasu!”  A day he will never forget.

Every time I look at a horse, I think about uma sashimi.   That’s not good.

Since we can’t eat horse in Hawaii, we went to eat poke instead.  Off the Hook is located in Manoa and the long line shows how popular this place is.  We were so hungry!

As a fisherman who catches his own fish, it’s hard to pay $24 for a poke bowl.  BUT, this one was really good.  Very fresh, a good variety, good toppings, and one of the best poke bowls I ever ate.  So yes, even as a fisherman, it’s well worth it!

Yesterday once more:  Wave of the day by Yano-san!

Good morning 5:30am.
North shore 4-6′ from the North. Big swell again tomorrow.
Ala Moana knee high and clean.
Diamond Head waist high and bumpy.
Trade winds at 15mph.
Sunny and warm.
Going to the sea.
Have a wonderful day!

Pairing is Surfing

We paddled out in the dark this morning.  Diamond Head was the only place in town that had waves.  Everywhere else was flat on the morning high tide.  Today was actually the biggest it’s been out there in 4 days.  Can’t beat this view.

Sato-san is a very cool surfer.  Just going with the flow and enjoying what the ocean provided.  The view at Diamond Head looks good from every angle.

The boys pushing each other to become better surfers.  This is surfing.

Then we went for Round 2 this afternoon on the low tide.  Bowls was the best it’s been in a very long time.  So stoked to surf with Yano-san again.  Very calm, smooth, and great wave knowledge.  He caught over 30 waves today!

Once again, the boys pushing each other to become better surfers.  This is surfing.

Pairing up surfers for Boot Camp has been really successful.  It’s the best way to connect, make a new friend, and most importantly, bring out your best performance.  It works all the time.

Another beautiful day in paradise…
