Dove sent me this rash guard last year but I forgot where I put it.  I just found it in my boat and it ended up being a lifesaver.  Good for sunburn and good for jellyfish stings.  I love it!  

I am very meticulous when it comes to my motors.  When you’re in-between islands in big waves and treacherous conditions, your life literally depends on it.  A few things went wrong but now after troubleshooting and fixing it, I learned a lot.  And knowing what I know now makes me feel a lot more comfortable when I’m out there.       

This was one of the most beautiful moon rises I’ve ever experienced.  And I’m hoping for more to come.

Most mechanics start work at 8am, but this mechanic starts at 5am.  I was working on Mayuki in the dark with my flashlight.  It’s cool and very peaceful.  

This particular job requires the boat to be on a trailer out of the water.  BUT, with a little improvising, it can be done in the water.  I’ve never heard of anyone doing it before, but there’s always a first.  I looked like an octopus crawling around the motor with a wrench in both hands.  Luckily I didn’t fall into the water.  That’s why I went in the dark so if I did, nobody would see.  Haha.  

It took a while, but I finally got the tilt/trim motor out.  This part alone cost $750 so you don’t want to be dropping the new one in the water.  That would be a nightmare.  

I cleaned the motors, changed spark plugs, and made sure everything else was perfect.  

Then met our group and headed out to Bowls.  The waves were so good!  Perfect conditions and perfect surfing. 

It’s always fun to surf with Toda-san.  He’s a big power surfer!
