July 3, 2024 Hawaii Surf Report

Yesterday once more:  The Day After the Jellies…

Good morning 2:45am.
Ala Moana waist to chest high and good.
Diamond Head chest high and good.
Light trade winds at 10mph.
Sunny and warm.
Going to the sea.
Have a wonderful day!

Bodyboarding Okinawa

The day after the jellyfish invasion.  Yesterday had the most anyone has ever seen, and today there were zero jellyfish.  Nature is fascinating.  Lucky for Kinoshita-san as he just arrived in Hawaii.

It is so cool to see someone bodyboarding in Hawaii for the first time.  The steep take off, the long rides, and the perfect conditions.  Kinoshita-san was so happy after each ride.

I use to be a bodyboarder too so I can relate to the feeling.  It’s like your whole body and legs are connected to the ocean.  It looked so fun.

Turtles have been popping up all over the place.  I must have seen over 10 today.

Look how glassy the conditions were this morning.  Smooth rides for this happy surfer girl.

Confident and focused.  That’s the goal.

Nakahodo-san arrived today from Okinawa so we went to get some waves in the afternoon.  Thankfully it was really good!  Even better than the morning as the high tide kept the rights going on forever.

We were really impressed by Nakahodo-san’s surfing.  His level was way higher than the last time we surfed.  He caught about 30 waves today and came in a happy Okinawan.

The Waikiki Experience

After surfing Bowls yesterday, we went to Diamond Head in the afternoon.

A much more challenging wave than Bowls but surfing here will make you a better rounded surfer.  If you can surf here, you can surf anywhere.

I took 20 video clips of every wave the girls rode.  They did great!  I was commentating just like how Coach Ben Aipa use to.  Every time I do this, I can feel Ben’s presence.

Came home and turned on the sauna.  I spent 30 minutes and came out dripping with sweat.  Followed by a cold shower.  Felt brand new after that.

Okinawan soba is my favorite!  Perfect for lunch.

If you like to people watch, Waikiki is the best place to do that.

We paddled out and surfed for the experience.  It was pretty crazy.

We had a great experience surfing with that dangerous crowd.  Surfers crashing against each other on every wave.  Once a year is good for me.  If you want to surf in Waikiki, I recommend wearing a helmet.
