Kids Day!

photo 1
wow, i had another great morning with Masamune-kun. i met this kid last year when he was 12 years old and now he’s a full grown man at 13. he surfed so well again today and i’m super proud of him. he speaks much better english than last year, he’s very kind, very respectful, and always says thank you for everything. what a great kid!

until now, i’ve never met anybody in japan that had bigger feet than me. i wear size 28cm shoes and Masamune-kun wears 28.5cm. it’s only going to get bigger and he’s only going to get taller. next year when he comes to hawaii, i’m sure he will be bigger than me.

after we at teddy’s burger and fries, i took him to my favorite jurrasic park here in honolulu. when i told him to look behind, he couldn’t believe there was a giraffe there. haha.

then i taught Masamune-kun some yoga. it’s never too early to learn and if he surfs and does yoga, he will have a very well balanced life.

and my favorite “savasana.” 3 minutes of clearing your mind and relaxing your body. i could tell he was feeling good after this.

then went back to the beach to meet the Nakamoto-family. took Kyle’s 2 nephews Kai and Micah surfing for the first time! they did awesome!!!! these kids are so lucky to have such a loving family. keep on surfing boys!!!

then i had to run some errands and came home to do some construction work. i built this deck 20 years ago hammering nail by nail. i’m getting ready for a new deck and a new look so this deck had to come down. it wasn’t easy because i actually pounded about a thousand nails when i built it. i had no idea what i was doing but managed to build it through my grandpa’s ways he taught me.

i was sweating like a pig! and while i got scratched up, pounded my finger with the hammer, and stepped on a rusty nail that went deep in my foot, i was telling myself “gosh, i give construction workers a lot of credit. this is freaking hard work!”
i woke up at 4am, worked outside my house, left my house at 7am, surfed 2 rounds, did construction, ate dinner, and just got home now at 10:15pm. another long day but very very satisfying. hopefully get to upload the video i shot today but not looking like it will happen tonight because i have another busy day tomorrow. better get to sleep. goodnight.

Construction Surfer!

Surf morning and afternoon.
Now is real work time!
Construction worker! Abunai. Haha.

Surfing Japan: How to Surf!

i woke up at 4am yesterday laying down in bed thinking about something i forgot to do. when i was in japan, i took some cool video but forgot to post it. i’ve been forgetting to post things a lot recently simply because i have too much footage to post, and no time to post it. so i keep thinking about things and this little boys voice came into my head. “hey kirby-san, you spelt my name wrong. it’s Renosuke, not Ryenoske.” here is a little 7 year old boy who checks my blog telling me i misspelled his name, which i did. i tell him sorry and hopefully will never forget how to spell his name. if he was older, i would have said, “hey kid, how the heck do you expect me to remember how to spell every single japanese name?” haha. i have the hardest times spelling japanese names, let alone remembering them. yes, i’m getting old and to memorize the millions of people i meet is impossible. so i get up and take 2 hours yesterday morning searching for, downloading, editing, and posting a video of my little friend Renosuke.

i knew this kid every since he was born. Renosuke was only 2 years old in this photo back in 2009. another kid i wish i could steal and bring back to hawaii.

i was so happy when Renosuke said he wanted to go surfing with me last month in wakayama. it was a moment i will never forget. and now that i took photos and video, i will never forget!
just another normal day in wakayama. woke up early, ate yamari breakfast, went to the fishing port, went for a surf, jumped on a train, and headed to tokyo, shonan, tokyo, and tohoku. no wonder i forgot about this video. check it out and enjoy a very pure 7 year old boy named Ryenosuke. haha, just joking Renosuke!
