when you are a friend of a friend, you are a friend. this cool couple from osaka are friends with my friend Kame-kun. such a small amazing surfing wonderful friendly world!
want to thank Nomura-san for the presents!
omg, i really needed to take care of myself. finally cut my nails and got all the wax out of my ears. now i can hear again. haha.
Watanabe-san yesterday getting some perfect longboard waves!
not too crowded, clean water, blue sky, and perfect waves. what else more could you ask for?
and yes, the lovely diamond head shot.
when i was at the makapuu lookout, a white tourist from the mainland started talking to me. he was asking me all kinds of questions and i was answering all of them to my knowledge. one of them was “what is that concrete box on the side of the mountain?” i said, it’s a bunker from WWII. it was these very bunkers where americans first saw the japanese kamikaze planes flying over heading to pearl harbor. he was surprised. then i started to tell him that whales jump right in front of here sometimes too. one second later, he seen a whale jump out of the water. he was surprised.
then he looked at me in the eye and said “hey smart guy.” i looked at him and said “huh?” he said, “since you’re so smart, i want to ask you something. there is a red flag down on that point there. next to it is a cement block.” i told him, “that is a bunker too.” then he said “but why was there a machine in there making noise???” he thought he had me on that one. haha. i told him, “that’s the pump for the salt water tanks at Sea Life Park.” he looked at me and was surprised. then he started telling me “hey, did you know that WWII was a conspiracy? President Roosevelt knew we were going to get attacked and wanted it to happen. he wanted to unify the country….” i looked at him and said “have a nice day.” turned around and walked away. that was enough for me. haha!

Hey Mr. Smart Guy?
Warning: East Side Shorebreak!
had an awesome time this morning with Watanabe-san. super cool surfer/photographer from hokkaido. he’s here to shoot, surf, and shoot. so that’s what we did!
Watanabe-san wanted to shoot barrels so that was easy to decide on where to go. sandy beach shore break! as i pulled up, i couldn’t believe you could just pull up front row and get a view like this. only in hawaii.
it was his first time shooting in shore break so i kept on telling him, “be very careful. this beach is the most dangerous beach in the world for a reason.” as i watched him set up his equipment, it reminded me of myself just a few years ago.
top of the line equipment for top of the line money.
there was a high surf advisory for the east shores of oahu. the waves didn’t look that big from the beach but when the sets came, it was huge! this is a cool photo!
i kept my eye on Watanabe-san the whole time. people die here each year and you have to watch out for one another. surely a great experience for a young aspiring photographer.
then we went around the corner to check out one of my favorite views in the world. it couldn’t have been a better day.
imagine coming from hokkaido to hawaii for the first time and seeing this? amazing!
had such a great time with Watanabe-san today. i’m sure he took some amazing photos on top of his amazing rides this morning.
then it was shave ice, surf check, and whale check. yeah, seen 3 whales out by the red buoy at diamond head.
today was one of the most beautiful days ever! perfect weather with cool trade winds.
then i got home this evening and ate a Marutaya Ramen. the perfect end to a perfect day! going sleep before 9 because Watanabe-san and i are going to dawn patrol somewhere. can’t wait!
