Punta Mita: Small Aku equals Big Ahi

IMG_2611
every country has different ways of doing things. in hawaii, we do it one way, in mexico, they do it another. all i do is sit back, watch, and enjoy.

we got transferred to our 30′ power cat. the smoothest ride out out there.
IMG_2653
auk equals ahi. if you take the time to fish for small aku, it ups the chances of getting that big ahi.

Kyle knows all to well that this is the way to bring in the tunas. he says aku is like rock candy to big tunas. they just can’t resist.

20 years ago i use to think blue water free divers were the craziest people in the world. now i’m one of them. and i feel like i’m in a great place. towards the end of the day, i almost fell asleep underwater. did some 75′ dives into the unknown. and when the big tuna appears, you have to keep calm or you will never make it back to the surface. it’s good for my mind because i get excited for everything.

who’s bombing syria? just take a look. i met a canadian at LAX and he was telling me how sad he was about american pulling them into the war. he said they shouldn’t even be involved.

want to wish Kazubo-san and Hard Reef in okinawa a happy 25 year anniversary. sorry guys i couldn’t make the party. i sure have some great years of memories there!
IMG_2583
when Miwa-san sent me these photos, i thought they had a strip show after??? come to find out, one of these beautiful girls is Kazubo-san. really? he looks hot! haha.

last night, the owner of the place we are staying at came over and gave me some beers. then he gave us a glass of tequila. omg, it was so good! i sipped it slowly and enjoyed my night remembering what a great day we had. will definitely be sipping on another glass tonight.

In Mexico: Dreams Come True

Screen Shot 2015-11-25 at 12.50.40 PM
people think we are super crazy. we travel to exotic destinations not to sightsee, not to suntan on the beach, and not to fool around. we come here to do an extreme sport called “Blue Water Spearfishing.” uncertainty, high risks, great whites, and extremely dangerous. we drive out 30 miles to sea off the coast of mexico and jump in the deep blue water. i actually think we’re a little crazy too.
IMG_2585
started off early at sunrise. loaded up the truck, then loaded up the boat, and then headed out for the 2 hour speed drive to our dive spot.
IMG_2597
we have a captain and a guide. Pepe is such a cool mexican. super helpful, super knowledgeable, and super friendly.

before the fun of diving begins, there are a few things we have to do. one is to catch bait. so the boys throw the pole out to catch bonito or katsuo. then when we have a few, we put on our wetsuits and get busy.
IMG_2639
i came here for one thing and one thing only. not the tequila, not the tacos, and not the pretty latina women. i came here to spear a big tuna! and guess what? that dream came true! finally!!! thank you Kyle for taking this photo! and thank you Kyle and Jonathan for putting in the backup shots.
IMG_2683
couldn’t have been a better ending to an awesome day. was so stoked to make it back to the coast of mexico alive.
IMG_2711
then a beer, sashimi, friends, dinner, tequila, and now i’m going to have a great night sleep.
to tell you the truth, after my trip to panama last year trying to spear a tuna, i almost gave up. 95% of me was telling myself that it’s enough and just to give up. but the remainder 5% brought me here to mexico. i was dreaming tuna and not i don’t have to dream no more. we still have 2 more dive days and if i spear another tuna, it’s just a bonus. the pressure is off and after this trip, i’m done with ahi fever. done forever!
DREAMS COME TRUE…

Warning: World Travel Alert

_86841937_86835657
OMG! the United States government just issued a worldwide travel alert over terror threats. the alert went into affect last night and will end on february 24, 2016. does that mean i’m not supposed to be out of the country? it’s so weird how i feel safer right were i am than in some parts of america. i’m guessing they have new information about future terror attacks. with thanksgiving weekend coming up, i can imagine how panicked the world is. as for me, i’m not too worried about it. terrorists can attack at any time at any place these days. you aren’t safe anywhere anymore. if all of us americans stay in american and abide by the travel alert, the terrorists win. i won’t let that happen. the only thing we can do that will guarantee our happiness these days is to just be happy.
getting back to my trip. weather is perfect. super clear and super warm. warm water and it’s like paradise here. hawaii’s been dark and gloomy recently so coming to the blue sun and clean water is refreshing. just going to enjoy it as much as possible. have a wonderful day!
