11 Month Old Baby Surfer

early morning at Bowls on the low tide was fun.  very shallow and hard to surf, but still fun.

i’m glad this girl doesn’t fall anymore because it’s very very shallow on the low tide.  there’s only inches of water under her board.

Round 2 was this afternoon on the high tide.  deeper water and perfect waves.

high tides are best on my foil.  i can go where ever i want when ever i want.  that’s the ultimate feeling of freedom that i love so much.

and i can get right in front of my student and coach her as i’m riding high.  you can’t get a photo like this any other way.  i love it!

then my friend Keone paddles out with his 11 month old son.  omg, that was the cutest surfing i’ve seen in a very long time.  Keone was catching sets and his son was loving it!  haha…

Behind the Risky Shots

yesterday once more…

one of my friends saw me shoot this wave and he told me i was crazy. maybe it’s crazy, but this is the only way you can get a clear perspective of what the surfer is experiencing.  i was paddling very slowly into this wave making sure the timing was perfect.

then as she passed, i took the drop on the wave lying down on my surfboard.  all the time, holding up the camera.  i’m dragging my 2 legs to slow myself down so i can ride inches behind her.

then as she passes, i release my legs out of the water and start to pick up speed again.  this is the shot i’m looking for.

then as she passes, i ride along the entire ride documenting this precious moment for her.  it’s one of the most dangerous ways of getting the shot but when you see results like this, it’s worth it!
