i really love to swim with the dolphins. it’s very soothing and very peaceful. in town, you will see wild pods swimming once in a while and nobody really bothering them. they are free and they are actually happy to see you. BUT, on the West side, there are dozens of boats with hundreds of snorkelers chasing these dolphins all day long for every single day of the year. yes, it’s a big business out there and i’ve always felt sorry for the dolphins. they hunt and night and come into the shoreline in the mornings to sleep and relax. so when i saw all those boats chasing the pods all day for money, it made me sick. the dolphins looked stressed, and the dolphins looked tired. you can just see it in their eyes…
so when i saw the news yesterday, i was so happy!!!
New NOAA rule bans swimming with Hawaii’s spinner dolphins
the new rules prohibits swimming or getting within 50 yards (46m) of the dolphins. that means those boats can’t chase them or have their customers jump in to swim with the dolphins anymore. and this goes into effect on October 28, 2021 for ALL HAWAIIAN ISLANDS. those dolphin swimming tourist days are finally over and i’m super happy. and i bet the dolphins are much more happier than me. so if you got to experience it in the past, you were lucky because this rule will probably last forever…
