there is a distillery on the back roads connecting the North to the West. if you blink, you will pass it so keep your eyes open. it’s called Kohana and their specialty is making RUM.
i was really impressed when i walked in. and i was more impressed on the fresh sugar cane juice they freshly squeezed for us.
but the best has yet to come. a tasting tour!
i didn’t know there were over 30 different types of sugar cane! when i was a little kid, we use to run through the sugar cane fields on the North shore. i remember getting lost and getting cuts all over our arms. that’s all i remember.
i didn’t expect to have a tasting experience there. first of all, i don’t drink alcohol anymore. second, i don’t drink rum. so i knew it would be very interesting.
after 5 shots of tasting the different rums, i can say i was feeling pretty dam good. i didn’t like rum before but i like rum now. it was super crispy, tasty, and very smooth. the best thing is there are no chemicals in the rum so expect a good buzz with no hangover. the ride back to town was full of laughter! surf, lunch, rum, and laugher. what an amazing day!
