do superstars get special treatment? can they break the law and get away with it? or should they? is Brittney Griner a hostage or criminal? you decide…
WNBA and USA Olympian Brittney tried to smuggle marijuana into Russia and got caught. she knew the laws there. she admitted to it and got sentenced to 9 years in a Russian jail. during the whole trial, some people were saying the was being held hostage, or against her will. American athletes, movie stars, politicians, including our own President are still staying she needs to be released immediately. how can you say that after she admitted it and pleaded guilty? our government even tried to do a hostage swap which included letting free a convicted Russian terrorist. what’s wrong with America? are we still trying to enforce our morals and laws upon other countries? shouldn’t we respect other countries strict policies against drugs? now that our government is trying to free a drug smuggler, what message does that send to our kids? smuggle drugs to countries that have zero tolerance and if you get caught, we will come to free you? is that the message???? i think the message should be more like “if you break the laws in the countries you visit, you will have to face the consequences. and if you don’t like their laws, DON’T GO THERE!!!”
then yesterday, another American gets caught with marijuana in Bali. this guy is facing an even longer prison sentence of 14 years in jail. what will our President do now? what do the famous athletes, movie stars, and politicians do now? hostage swap? free him? i bet you they don’t even care about this guy. in fact, i bet you they don’t even know his name. but i bet you if he was Tom Cruise, it would be a totally different story.
sorry but i just had to vent. it makes me angry to see and hear our government trying to control the whole world and their own governing laws…
