here are a couple paragraphs of an article of an interview published in a surfing magazine back in 1989. it’s pretty funny because those exact words i said 33 years ago still apply to my life today. i explained how i don’t have a local surf spot because i surfed all over, “i don’t care, i just drive around looking for waves! and i also explained how i liked to surf alone, “i can go where i want whenever i want and don’t have to wait for someone to find a leash or wax their board.” that was 33 years ago and i still feel the exact same. looking back, i was only 21 years old and kind of had an idea of my future. i just knew that i loved surfing and if i could make a living off it, wonderful. but if that career didn’t work out, i wanted to make sure to take my Grandpa Osaki’s advice of getting a good education. so that’s what i did…
i just found a couple of my report cards and although not everybody believed me throughout these years, i actually graduated from the College of Business at the University of Hawaii. honestly, i still don’t believe it myself. haha. i played hard, surfed harder, and studied the hardest. my goal when i entered UH was to graduate with ALL perfect grades. i did that for myself, but did it more for my Grandpa. 4.0GPA Grandpa! thank you for supporting and believing in me. i miss you so much…
