Flashback: Followed Dreams

here are a couple paragraphs of an article of an interview published in a surfing magazine back in 1989.  it’s pretty funny because those exact words i said 33 years ago still apply to my life today.  i explained how i don’t have a local surf spot because i surfed all over,  “i don’t care, i just drive around looking for waves!  and i also explained how i liked to surf alone, “i can go where i want whenever i want and don’t have to wait for someone to find a leash or wax their board.”  that was 33 years ago and i still feel the exact same.  looking back, i was only 21 years old and kind of had an idea of my future.  i just knew that i loved surfing and if i could make a living off it, wonderful.  but if that career didn’t work out, i wanted to make sure to take my Grandpa Osaki’s advice of getting a good education.  so that’s what i did…

i just found a couple of my report cards and although not everybody believed me throughout these years, i actually graduated from the College of Business at the University of Hawaii.  honestly, i still don’t believe it myself.  haha.  i played hard, surfed harder, and studied the hardest.  my goal when i entered UH was to graduate with ALL perfect grades.  i did that for myself, but did it more for my Grandpa.  4.0GPA Grandpa!  thank you for supporting and believing in me.  i miss you so much…
