Nuchi du takara: Life is the Treasure

114

getting back to the Okinawan Festival in Hawaii.  it was great to see so many local Japanese enjoying this cultural event.

during WWII, many Okinawan/Americans had to go to interment camps.  they couldn’t take anything with them so they made their own instruments.  the Sanshin to Okinawans is like the Ukulele to Hawaiians.  a necessity.

i didn’t know that the 3 months of combat in Okinawa took the lives of more than 100,000 Okinawan civilians.  that’s 1/4 of the whole population.  omg, i’m so shocked.

a group of Okinawan/Americans from Hawaii sent 550 pigs to Okinawa to help with food.  that’s just another amazing story of support.

i took a video of “Sanshin no Hana.”  imagine the sanshin, ukulele, taiko drums, and a beautiful voice going all at once.  i still have chicken skin when i play it over and over…
