about 15 years ago, we did a surf school at Ikumi Beach on the beautiful island of Shikoku. it was so cool to see so many kids show up for this event.
Matchi, Tony Moniz, Seth Moniz, and i were the coaches.
there was this cute little girl that surfed really good. she must have been like 7 years old. i clearly remembered her because of her cute smile.
fast forward 10 years later. i see this girl long boarding at Bowls and surfing really good! i knew she was from Shikoku because of the board she was riding. we started talking and found out we have a lot of mutual acquaintances. her name was Minami Konaka.
i knew her sponsor, i knew her mentor, and that’s all i knew about her. well, that’s what i thought…
after Minami-chan went back to Japan, she sent me this photo. OMG!!!!! she was that little cute girl from that day we did the surf school in Shikoku! what a small world!!! it’s so cool to see her still chasing her dreams….
