Boating 101: Run or Die

98

I learned a lot of things about boat maintenance ever since I got my first boat over 30 years ago.  The most important thing is to use it as much as possible.  Even if it’s for a 10 minute ride, run it.  And if you don’t run your boat often, I guarantee you something will break.  I’ve had it happen to me, and I’ve seen it happen a lot of times to other people.

I came back to the harbor yesterday and the boat owner next to me looked stressed out and was trying to fix his engine.  He said it’s running rough and idling high.  I knew he didn’t use his boat for a long time so I told him to go take it outside Waikiki and put it into FULL THROTTLE for 3 minutes.  That will clean the gas lines, the fuel injectors, exhaust, and everything in between.  He said he will try and when I got home, he texted me “omg, it’s fine now!  it worked!”  Simple solution.

Mayuki’s going to be 10 years old and I’ve taken care of her more than I’ve taken care of anything else in my life.

And she’s taken care of me…
