heard that Sports Illustrated magazine is letting the people decide the next “SPORTSMAN OF THE YEAR” cover shot. kelly slater is one of the nominees and if he gets the most votes, it will be the first time in history that a surfer will be on the cover. kelly’s got the odds against him because he will be competing against world class athletes. i’m just hoping that 11 world titles will do him justice and he will pull it off. you can go to sports illustrated facebook page to vote. sorry kelly, i don’t have facebook so i can’t vote but i’m hoping you get the prestigious sports illustrated cover!
Kieren Perrow? who’s that? Kieren was the dark horse who wasn’t supposed to win the pipe masters. not too many people know about kieren, but i seen this guy out every morning i dawn patrolled pipe/backdoor for the past 2 years. last year, he got second place, this year, he won the dam thing! so here’s my message to the kids that want to win a pipe contest someday. get out there and practice everyday! the good days, and the shitty days. john john florence did, jamie o’brian did, and kieren perrow did. now they are all pipeline masters champions!
this is mar ohno’s heat at the vans world cup at sunset. the first 2 contests of the triple crown, i stayed home and watched it on my computer. why? because it’s better. on the beach at haleiwa and sunset, it’s just too far from the action. but pipeline was different. watching it front row on the beach was awesome. i haven’t missed one in the past 20 years, and never will.
