Diving in Bali Day 2….
before we came to bali, kyle hooked up with the top bali spear fisherman. andre also makes spear guns so we went to check out his shop before we jumped on the boat. i was so amazed in the high quality guns he hand makes. i might have to get me one…
this is a secret spot that you will never ever be able to find. right off the shore lives huge ulua’s or GT’s, and schools of dog tooth tunas….
if you want to spear a big fish, you need big equipment. we each had two of those red buoy’s attached to our spear gun. andre speared a big one a while ago and the fish took his buoy’s under the water along with his gun. and it was never to be found….
we were diving this 45′ ledge late in the evening. it was the time when the big fish come out so we timed it perfect. one way of getting the fish up is to throw bait in the water. yeah, you might think that’s crazy because it attracts sharks too. but that’s what you want. just a lot of action in the water so the fish get curious. anyway, we were spearing opelu kala’s, cutting it up with our dive knives in the water. then 3 good size uku’s came by. it took me 4 dives @ about 45′ to finally spear one. i was stoked because all i was thinking about was sashimi. uku sashimi is the best and goes along good with some bintang beers. anyway, i had that puppy tied on my waist and was going for the other ones. then kyle asked me to sacrifice my uku for bigger fish. that meant cutting it up and throwing it back in the water. what??? that’s what i said through my snorkel. then james came by and i gave him the fish and asked him to only cut one side up so we can take the other side back home for sashimi. then kyle came back and told him to cut the other side up. oh my gosh… anyway, it was perfect, a lot of food in the water, the sun was setting, and the small fish were coming up so it was just a matter of time when the big ones followed. i had my gun loaded and just waiting. then in the corner of my eye, i seen bubbles coming up from deep down. i was confused and went to look what it was. shit!!! it was 3 freaking tourist scuba divers. oh my gosh….. no big fish will come around with scuba divers in the water. and what the heck were scuba divers doing out at a secluded island in the middle of nowhere? i was pretty bummed but all we could do is laugh about it. i dove down to the divers and i was thinking of poking one of them in the ass with my spear tip. then they would have been just as surprised as we were. anyway, we went home with nothing except for the head of the uku, and a lot of laughs. that’s the cool thing about diving. you just never know what you will see. can’t wait until tomorrow….
