i met the coolest energetic girl from japan. Chiaki-san use to be a college cheerleader and really knows how to make people laugh. i had so much fun surfing and driving around with her yesterday. it was only her 3rd time surfing and after 2 hours of long rides, she still had so much energy. yes, we scored bowls with nobody around. it was totally empty and the waves were so good! lucky hawaiian day!
Chiaki-san has never seen whales before. i told her let’s go to the east side but there is no guarantee there will be whales. i told her maybe 95%. we ended up seeing about 8 whales in 30 minutes. lucky whale watching day!
then i met up with my morning surf crew for dinner at Gaku. asahi’s, sake’s, good food, and lots of laughs! i haven’t laughed so much in a while. great stories, great talk, and great jokes.
Gaku will be making 5 years since it opened. i haven’t ate at such a successful japanese izakaya before in hawaii. they have been jam packed ever since opening and if you want a reservation, you have to call in a week before. thank you manabu-san for bringing a taste of japan to hawaii. your food is the best!
as i was driving home last night almost falling asleep from being so tired, i thought to myself, “wow, i have the best job in the world!” i put in some neil diamond and sang myself all the way home. it’s neil diamond tonight and i’m not going to miss it no matter what! i’ll send you some live photos from the concert. LOVE ON THE ROCKS!!!
