watched it all? i bet you did. now what do you think in this very minute? donate money? support KONY 2012? well, first i have to say the filmmakers did a brilliant job in this video. second, yes, KONY looks like a bad person and needs to be locked up. well, that’s if KONY is a person, and that’s if KONY is alive. i never get pulled into things like this because being a marketing graduate, i second guess everything that comes my way. after reviewing some information behind this organization, i made my decision. and please, this is only my decision and what ever you do, please feel free to do so.
if you look at the numbers of viewers, 70 million is a lot of people around this world. this video is a classic example of marketing at it’s best. they’re using the social network we have today to their advantage and also have some of the most creative filmmakers and editors. this video was well done and it would make an average person donate money and support KONY in a heartbeat. as for me? remember the red cross? i decided not to give the hard earned money raised by We Are One to them because i knew that only 30% goes to the cause. the rest? i don’t want to even go there. as for KONY 2012, same thing. as for a few weeks ago, they raised $13,765,180 and $8,894,632 went to expenses. what, $8,894,632 for expenses? so if i donate a $100, only $30 of it would go to the cause. for me, i’m not happy with that. i’ve been thinking about this video ever since Maki-san sent it to me the other day. post it? don’t post it? then i thought that everybody will see it anyway so i just wanted to post it and voice my opinion. don’t get me wrong, KONY seems to be a very bad person. but do we send our young american military into a country we hardly even know of trying to hunt down and kill a person we hardly know of? well, we have some very bad people in the U.S that do very bad things to children, yet, our government lets them out of jail. what if the military from some third world country comes and tries to hunt and kill that person? is it ok? i don’t think so. wait! i’m getting a little upset now so i better stop. please watch, please look at both sides, and please make your best decision to support this or not. mahalo.
