good evening. after finding parking at ala moana shopping center, i rode my skateboard to magic island to watch the contest. i use to surf the local motion surf into summer every year when i was an amateur. it was my favorite contest because there were so many prizes for the finalists. and to get bowls with 5 other people in the water, can’t beat that. i’m so stoked that the people i went there to cheer for all did really good!!!
“local motion” maki yamamoto surfed the industry division. it was her and jeannie chesser surfing with the men. i think she got 4th or something but if that was a womens final, she would have won it. she caught 2 sets and ripped it all the way in. great job maki-san…
kelia moniz got 2nd in the girls division. her surfing level is getting much better and if she just doesn’t fall on waves, she’d win every contest… i always get mad at her for falling and i’m still going to get on her for that… don’t fall kelia!!!!
seth moniz won the menehune division. he beat rival kalani david. i was in the water shooting video of that heat and seth was ripping. he got the sets and did what he had to do. good job seth….
i paddled out yesterday evening at bowls and the last heat was in the water. it was micah’s semi-final heat. he surfed it so good and i was really happy seeing him throwing those big sprays from behind. almost has big as mine… haha.. today he couldn’t get a good wave in the final and had to settle for 6th. i hope he understands that he made this uncle happy because nobody his age can throw as much spray as him… go micah!!
angela maki vernon free surfs really good but gets super nervous during contests. today wasn’t any different. right before her heat, she looked super nervous so toda-san and i told her to go out and have a good time. that’s what she did and that’s what it took for her to win. 2 big scores for the victory!! congratulations!!
