good morning. 5 am. we had a fun bbq last night at my house. the kids are surely going to miss shun and shun is surely going to miss the kids. it was kind of cute watching them saying their “bye bye’s.” shun told me that he wanted to stay in hawaii. i laughed because 2 years ago, he wanted to go home early. at his young age, shun is learning thing how to become more independent. something you need to survive as a professional surfer. now i’m going to wake this kid up and take him dawn patrol for his last surf at bowls before he flies back this morning to japan. i’m sure his younger brother ren-kun and his family and supporters can’t wait to see him. sayonara shun!!!

Hi Man!
My name is Inigo and I’m from San Sebastian (Spain -Europe). Yes, the other side of the world!!! 🙂
The 6Th of August we are flying to Honolulu! My dream came true! I’ve been watching your funny videos of surfing at youtube for so long until I convinced my girl to fly for 25 hours!!!
Kirby, I’d like to make u a question… I do surf aswell but I’m afraid of Sharks! I’ve heard so many stories In our coasts live very small sharks but they are not dangerous at all… Is the risk of being attacked by a shark in hawaii so dangerous as I heard?
Could you please tell me some surf spots where that risk is lower??? Will appreciate it!
Thanks
Hello Inigo from Spain! Thanks for the email. Your coming to Hawaii!! Cool!!! It will be well worth the 25 hour ride. As for your question about sharks, hey, there are sharks everywhere in the world. It’s part of nature. You have a better chance getting bitten by the drug searching dog at the airport than by getting bit by a shark. Don’t worry about it. Just jump in the water and enjoy the ocean. Don’t think about sharks or you won’t have a good time. The low risk areas for shark attacks? The pool man… haha. Just joking. Waikiki and Ala Moana are pretty safe. There tends to be bigger sharks on the north shore but you don’t have to worry because it’s flat in the summer. Enjoy your trip and let me know how it went! I wish I can say “see you in the water” but i’ll be in japan. Enjoy Hawaii and hope you can feel the Aloha Spirit!!
Mahalo,
Kirby
