and speaking of free diving, Kyle and the crew are going to mexico tomorrow for the mexico shootout event. i wish i could go but due to work, i will have to stay back this time. i’ll just dream and remember the awesome time i spent there. i just wanted to wish all the guys good luck and please dive safe.
these Mexican Dog Tooth Snappers or “Pargo” are the hardest fish in the world to land. first, you have to dive 60-80′, wait for it come out of his cave, take the shot, pull and wrestle it out from the cave, hold it tight while it’s fighting for its life, then swim up 80′ which takes a minute just for that. total dive time is over 2.5 minutes and when you come up, you’re light headed and start to see stars. yeah, on the brink of black out. just for a fish? yup, that’s what we love to do.
on that last trip, i speared 3 big ones. it’s called extreme hunting and a sport we live and die for. lucky to be alive.
