after takahashi-san has been taking me diving on his huge boat in okinawa so many of times, i really wanted to take him out diving here in hawaii. why? things here are way different than okinawa. first, my boat is tiny. haha. and second, the fish are hard to catch in hawaii. well, much harder to catch than in okinawa. i always told him that if you can catch fish in hawaii, your a good diver. takahashi-san is a good diver…
we pull up to my secret GT house. but before that, we make a plan. takahashi goes in the backdoor, while i guard the front door. we both go down at the same time, bang!! he spears one. then here come 10 or more straight for me. i shoot one, my shaft bends, the fish comes off. my gun breaks. i call hayato the boat man, he speeds up with my backup gun, i go back down, spear the fish again who was hiding deep in the hole. we come up with 2 GT’s or Ulua’s. tomoka is filming the whole thing. all that happened in less than 10 minutes. it’s what you call “teamwork” at its best…..
i’ve been cleaning my fish in the ocean now days because i want to feed it back. the guts ending up in the rubbish can does nothing…. chef takahashi-san with his portable cutting board….
hayato’s been spearing a lot of fish recently. i’m stoked to see him growing into a perfect diver. a diver that can feed his family and more, and a diver that isn’t scared of sharks anymore. gosh, i still remember when he tried to run on water the first time he saw a shark. it was so funny….
takahashi-san went into maui sporting goods and bought a $530 gun. today was his first time and it already paid for itself. yes, no money can buy the experience we had today. is kazuma the next upcoming free diver?????
*anyway, i decided today to be a Hawaii GT tour guide. the probability of spearing one with me is about 80%. and if you ask any fisherman about those odds, he won’t believe you…. dream BIG!!!
