i can’t believe how big Typhoon Vonfong is! look at the eye of the storm! for 20 years, i’ve chased these typhoons year after year. i would see one of these from hawaii, take the next flight to japan, and chase the waves from okinawa to tohoku. pretty hardcore as we use to go surfing during these typhoons while people were actually dying. ever since 3/11, my whole outlook on life and surfing changed a lot. i no longer have the urge to chase these deadly typhoons. all i hope now is for everybody to be safe, especially my friends.
this typhoon is supposed to be the strongest one in the world for 2014. to all my japanese friends; please be safe!
Jun-san and Keiko-san in paradise. i always have a great time teaching people how to surf for the first time. it’s just so rewarding watching their face after riding a perfect wave. a smile that lasts a lifetime.
this day couldn’t have been any more prettier.
Jun-san’s first wave of his life! so stoked to ride it with him.
then Jun-san started to catch waves on his own. great balance.
Keiko-san also got up on her first wave. then just wanted more and more. it was so cool to see these golfers turn surfers in just 2 hours. haha.
the classic shot with diamond head and waikiki in the background. cool!
and between waves, i get the chance to do a little surfing on my own. a very happy lifestyle!
