i haven’t spent too many decembers away from hawaii in these past 24 years. i remember the first few times in asia i got really home sick because of the lack of christmas spirit. fast forward to now, there are christmas trees and lights everywhere i look. taipei airport with the huge christmas tree! i was singing christmas carols in my head.
after i came back to japan yesterday, the first thing i did was to eat sashimi and sip on sake. the freshness of japan! then i went to asakusa to do some sightseeing. pretty amazing city!
i was looking for a place to sleep last night and thought i’d try out the hostel in akasuka. 3000 yen or $26 for a bed in a 6 bunked bedroom. i walked in, put on the sheets on my bed, then walked straight out. my first and probably last time in a hostel in japan. it was kind of disappointing to know that the hostel in taiwan was much better.
last, i’m heading to tohoku today with a part of the we are one team. tohoku has a place in our hearts that will last forever. so many mixed emotions that i can’t even express now. how the smiles can heal our hearts. i can’t wait!
