the other day i had a few hours to kill so i tried my luck pole fishing way outside oahu. 18 miles or 39 kilometers out to be exact.
got lucky! nice size ono for dinner. it took 2 hours and about $200 in gas to catch this one fish. i think i could have bought 5 onos for that price at the fish market? haha. was it worth it? to tell you the truth, i don’t know.
when i take big coolers, i never catch fish. and when i take small coolers, i catch fish. weird? so i always go with a small cooler and if i catch a big fish, i just filet the fish and pack it into ziplock bags. super easy and convenient.
before i went fishing that day, i went free diving for an hour. caught a mixed bag of excellent quality fish. it cost me $15 of gas to get to my spot. and this fish is worth 3x that amount. so after this pole fishing and spear fishing day, i came to the conclusion that spear fishing is much more economical for me. i’m a hunter and i love to attack! not wait. haha.
