just when you think you seen everything, the ocean proves you wrong. i was diving at sunset time yesterday and it was kind of dark already. i was looking down the whole time trying to adjust my eyes to the fish deep dark down below. after a while, i could feel something coming for me. it was a weird feeling so i look up and see a gigantic manta ray trying to eat me! we came face to face at about 2′! i was staring at it and her wingspan was probably 9′ or 3 meters wide. i felt like a midget. i yelled “OOOOOHHHHMMMYYYGOOOOSHHHH!” then it swam right under me. it was the biggest manta ray i’ve ever seen and also the closest encounter with one in my life. 5 minutes later, i hear Yukochan yelling from the boat “SHARK!!!!” it turned out to be the manta swimming around the boat. Reid threw me his gopro and i started filming. it was incredible! check it out! it was huge!!!
then we all got on the boat and then we seen another one, then another one, then another one. there were 4 manta rays just circling the boat just swimming calmly by. it was the first time in 8 years diving this spot i had marked on my GPS and there were fish and mantas everywhere. now i can’t wait to go back and hope the mantas are still there!!
today is january 8th and i can’t remember the last time we started off a new year with 8 days of picture perfect weather. and i can’t remember the last time i started off the new year spending so much time in the water experiencing so many crazy things. after yesterday, i’m still a little baby when it comes to the ocean. and the cool thing is i want to know more and more about it. please teach me!
want to thank Koguma-san for the japanese green tea kitkat. half gone already. haha.
