for the past 4 months, i’ve been telling Reid “when the conditions are right and one of our days off meet, let’s go catch you a big fish.” today was the day. i set my alarm for 4am but woke up at 3am dreaming about it. and when we set off at 5am in the pitch dark heading out 20 miles to the open ocean, i was super excited. i just knew we were going to catch something, but didn’t want to jinx it.
watched the sun rise and we threw out the lines. it was freaking so beautiful! whales jumping, calm seas, and the absolute perfect day for fishing.
soon, we caught a katsuo. omg, i was thinking “katsuo tataki!” yeah!
soon after, the big one bites! screaming the reel, and Reid trying hard to reel the fish up. it was his fish so i wasn’t going to help no matter what. haha.
then it was my job to make sure the fish doesn’t get away. i put the gaff and the fish was secure.
Reid’s first big game fish! then we headed back to oahu, checked out the waves at a secret spot, surfed by ourselves, and had a great time. then we both decided “no fishing anymore. rather surf.” haha. congratulations Reid on your prize catch. i came home and had the best sashimi dinner ever!
my grand nephew’s been coming over a lot recently. he climbs on my bed and looks at the stars on my ceiling.
then he turns to me and says “unko kaby, anpanman please.”
then i put on the anpanman video for him and watch him get all excited. it’s a great way to end a very long day.
today was a very long, but satisfying day in the ocean. i’m going to go to sleep with the biggest smile on my face. then tomorrow, will spend the full day in the ocean again. i can’t wait! good night. and omg, i can’t believe i’m going on a trip in less than a week????
