i spent the last few days tuning up my guns. it’s been a while since i’ve used them so had to change the line, rubbers, and make some fine adjustments. i usually carry 3 guns on the boat. one for big fish, one for medium fish, and one to let someone borrow. all 3 in perfect condition.
spent the day with Aoi. surfed, dove, and had lots of fun. it was his first time spearfishing so i was trying to teach him. i can go on and on about how to free dive but i told him the best way is just to watch. that’s how i learned. i would watch my dive friends from start to finish. i would watch what equipment they would use, i would watch how they descended, i would watch how they stalk the fish, i would watch how they cleaned and cooked the fish, and i would watch everything else related to spear fishing. then i would picture that in my brain, and do the exact same thing. that’s how i learned. anyway, so like any normal kid, Aoi grabs the gun, jumps off the boat, and goes off on his own. trying and trying. then coming back and telling me “ah, the fish are playing tricks with me.” haha. that was so funny!
so we hit one of my dive spots at 35′ deep. this time, i don’t see anything really good to spear. BUT, i know if i dive down and wait patiently, something will come to me. i drop to the bottom, wait, wait, and wait. then from the far distance, i see this big red kumu swimming slowly towards my direction. i shake some sand off the bottom to get him interested, it worked. i get the shot perfectly in his gills. dinner is going to be good tonight!
but before dinner, let’s talk about lunch. eggs benedict. wow!
and chicken quesadilla. double wow! delicious! waves good, diving good, lunch good, friends good, and everything good today. so happy and so tired. good early night!
