every fisherman has their own fishing techniques. in molokai, it’s all about tides, currents, knowledge, and experience. i took a back seat on this trip and absorbed all the knowledge cousin Dino was teaching. this is hands on experience and i will never forget what i learned. things like this you will never find on google.
had the funnest time yesterday morning with Mutsumi-san. it was her first time surfing, first time eating poke, and first time eating shave ice. so pretty much the first time for everything. her surfing was awesome!
a very interesting person. we were laughing all morning long. mostly talking about her unique haircut. haha. i loved it!
i was craving tako so i ordered the ahi and tako combination. so good!
then took the girls from florida surfing in the afternoon. i had a great time trying to find out what girls their age do in florida. then i asked them, “you would probably die without your iPhone yeah?” and they said “yeah.” haha.
then went for a snorkel, sunset, and firework tour. Conner is on the left. it’s crazy that i knew this kid since he was a little baby. watched him grow up to become a fine young man on a great path to a successful future. but for now, he’s just enjoying his college life and is glad to be back in hawaii for summer vacation. and Claire and Carolina are probably stoked to be here in hawaii absorbing this beautiful nature. a cool group of kids.
it was a perfect evening. just the ocean and nature. oh, want to apologize to the girls for yelling at them. twice, i yelled “GET OFF YOUR FRICKEN IPHONES!!!!” haha.
i’m learned a lot from the past week. begin on molokai really opened my eyes to the problems facing the city youth these days. to me, social media is the main problem. although it’s connected many people, it’s also ruined many lives. it’s like a drug, very addicting to kids. when we were growing up, we didn’t have this problem. we had each other’s company and that was enough. so from now on, if you’re with me in nature, you better put away your iPhones. absorb and take in what mother nature gives you. don’t look at a digital screen, look at this. then look around you and appreciate the people you are experiencing this with. this is a moment no social media app can beat.
