Tony Moniz is one of the most respected guys in Hawaii. everybody knows him, and everybody stays out of his way. when he paddles for a wave, you shouldn’t even try. but these days, there are surfers that don’t so their homework. so they drop in on one of the most fearless and craziest surfers around. i always tell my friends, get the heck out of his way!!! especially when i see him taking off like this.
but yeah, some surfers are clueless. they don’t look behind like they’re supposed to. in this case, 3 of them.
luckily, 2 of them miss the wave, but one took off and tried to style surf. i was thinking to myself “omg, you are crazy!”
i see Tony coming around the corner and know he won’t stop. i seen him run over hundreds of people before. from Waimea Bay, to Pipeline, to Sunset, to Waikiki, and now to Diamond Head. haha.
then he was trying to do an off the lip on a couple more surfers. i was taking this video laughing my head off. laughing because so many young surfers don’t have respect for Hawaiian legends like Tony. and they way they learn is by getting hit. and i would not want to be hit from a foil. that is guarantee straight to the emergency room stuff.
every wave Tony rode, i was laughing. he looked like the old Tony Moniz from the 80’s. it brought back all the great memories. so if you want to know where i got my wild side, now you know…
