i want to thank my sister Tammy for coming down at 4am in the morning to see us off. this was the start of a journey we planned last minute.
i was a little worried about all the weight we had in Mayuki. but a few months ago when i saw the same kind of boat pulling the Hokulea around, i knew we would be ok. and now that 7 of us crossed one of the most dangerous channels in the world on the worst possible day, Mayuki is proven. there is no way i would have taking that kind of chance on any other boat.

when we got back, Tony accidentally knocked one of my fishing poles into the dirty Ala Wai Canal. he tried to get it and couldn’t. so i tried and freaking fell into the canal!!! omg, it was so stinky and dirty. Tony and Joshua couldn’t stop laughing at me. i couldn’t stop laughing at myself too. it was hilarious.
this is the fishing pole Tony knocked in the canal. and this is the fishing pole Isaiah fell on. yes, in the middle of the channel, he fell from the top of the boat while tightening the surfboards, smashed the fishing pole, and fell into the raging Kaiwi channel. i seriously thought he was going to the hospital. but the kid is a survivor… look how bent it is!
since it’s been in the Ala Wai, i soaked it 5x into fresh water to rinse it out.
yes, Isaiah’s body weight that fell onto the pole did this. that’s why i can’t believe he didn’t get seriously injured. thank goodness because you can replace a fishing pole, but you can’t replace Isaiah Moniz…
