Indonesian Wave and Festival Culture

gosh, glad to be back home in Hawaii. the trip was absolutely perfect, but i just wished it was a little closer. it took me 42 hours to get home… pretty far yeah?

went to the local festival. i think we were the only foreigners there. so cool to see all the happy faces.

and cool to see the interesting local dishes.

cotton candy that probably costs pennies.

the smallest and cutest ferris wheel i ever seen.

and this ride was pretty cool too. wasn’t going that high but the people were screaming their heads off. could you imagine them going to Disneyland? haha.

and the train had to be pushed around the track by 2 guys. haha.

Indonesia’s religion is 95% Muslim. everywhere you go, all the ladies are properly covered up from head to toe. but their smiles are so welcoming.

Kerak Telor Khas Betawi? what is that?

need a watch?

or sweet perfume? it’s only 80 cents for 3 bottles. that’s so cheap!

the cool thing about this festival is there is no alcohol. in fact, it’s prohibited for Muslims to drink alcohol so you won’t find it in any store. what a healthy culture…

ended the festival with a golden sunset.

now that i just got back to Hawaii, i’m going to upload my cameras and share with you our wonderful trip. i’ve been going to Indonesia for the past 25 years and thought i surfed and seen it all. this trip made me realize i still have virgin eyes. i’ve never seen a wave like the one we surfed on our last day anywhere else in this world. we gambled and drove 1.5 hours to get there. and that gamble paid off big time because that has to be one of my most memorable days of my life…
